We believe that the church is, according to the Apostle Paul, the body of Christ. The church is to be the physical presence of Christ in the world. At FUMC of Palatine, we are Christians who are excited to be part of the United Methodist Church, a global church that is 11 million strong. Methodists have open hearts and open minds–and welcome anyone interested in learning more about the Christian faith.
John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.
Our congregation has served this community for over 150 years. Our special ministry emphases are vital worship, music, children's and youth faith development, and many small, caring groups who meet all week long for spiritual growth and friendship. We also have many trained, "Stephen Ministers" who reach out in consistent supportive, confidential relationships with those in greatest need.
As United Methodists, we are part of a theological tradition emphasizing God's profound grace, welcome and experienced presence through the Spirit of Jesus Christ in everyday life, for everyday people, everywhere.
We use for authorities in decision-making together: the Bible, Reason, Tradition, and Experience. We stress the power of real, heartfelt day in and out devotion to Christ as Sovereign of this world, through our disciplined lifestyle and hands-on healing of society's wounds, As a congregation, we have many ministries to these ends.
